2014 Fall Frolic (home) |
October 2014 Update
Before leaving Indiana for the winter, we were able to celebrate granddaughter Nora’s first birthday; such fun!
We were also able to spend a day with Eric, Kristin
and Nora at
Tuttle’s Orchard, a great little orchard just northwest of Greenfield.
Daughter-in-law Amanda and the girls were here
and able to join us for a day of picking apples, just the right pumpkin and
having lunch at Mozzi’s
Pizza in Greenfield.
October 15 we left Greenfield, and drove south to
Columbia, Tennessee to spend time with son Mike and family.
While there we were able to spend time with
each of the grandkids, as well as the entire family.
Grace and Grandma went to the
Adventure Science Center
in Nashville for “Grace & Grandma Day;” Bob, Shelby and Abby saw
“Ouija” at
the movies and we were able to have dinner with Patrick a couple of times.
Abby and Grace spent the night and helped
Grandma make a police car cake for Mike’s birthday.
October 29 we left Columbia, heading west and south
to drive the Natchez
Trace Parkway south to its terminus at Natchez, Mississippi.
It was nice driving with an actual map rather
than the GPS, although we did miss our original connecting point west of
Columbia.
We’d intended to make this drive in the past,
but always had some type of mechanical issue and weren’t able to do so.
The fall colors were beautiful and the rest
stops were pretty and plentiful.
We spent our first night at
Trace State Park just outside Tupelo, MS.
We had a lovely site right on the lake and
Kathy enjoyed the 2-mile nature hike along the lake.
The second night we parked at River View RV Park in Vidalia, Louisiana, with a nice view of the Mississippi River and the bridge we crossed along the way. From Vidalia, we drove along US 84, where we saw recently harvested cotton fields, one with huge round bales still in the field. We connected with US 165, then I-10 at Lake Charles, LA.
Our third night was at Hidden Lake RV Park, Beaumont,
Texas.
We had a pretty view of the small lake outside our
living room window.
We arrived at Westlake RV Resort in west Houston, Texas
Saturday, November 1 and will spend the month here visiting long-time friends
Bill & Deb. We went to the Wings over Houston air show with Bill and Deb. Next
week we intend to go the Renascence Fair. It is always nice to enjoy the warm
weather here in the South.
