August 2010:

Since we’ve been spending a lot of time at the pool, I decided we needed a swim bag.  Thanks to Cindy at myrecycledbags.com for this pattern, which I modified to make it a little bigger and put a pocket inside for keys, phone, cash, etc.  It measures 22 ½” X 16” and holds 2 large towels, sunscreen, books or any other items we might need at the pool.  It also dries easily so I don’t have to be concerned about it getting wet.

I retired in 2006 after a fulfilling 32 year nursing career.  As much as I enjoyed my nursing profession, I love retirement even more!  We have seen so much of this beautiful United States, have met great people and have made many new friends.

I decided it’s time to update my page so here goes..

I enjoy spending time with family and always look forward to our time in Indiana and Tennessee.  It’s wonderful to see how the grandchildren have grown and what our sons and daughters-in-laws have been doing in their homes and their lives.  I enjoy talking to all of them on the phone, but it’s not quite the same as seeing them in person, especially since youngest granddaughter, Grace, usually won’t talk to me on the phone!  I also look forward to spending time with my siblings and all my nieces and nephews.

I’ve been catching up on my reading since we’ve settled into our “winter home.”  I’m currently reading Steve Martini’s Double Tap a legal mystery.  I also enjoy Mary Higgins Clark, Jan Burke, and am hopeful Jan Karon will produce a new book soon as I’ve read all of hers!   This summer Bob encouraged me to read Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth and on the third attempt I was finally able to get into it, so now we have a couple more of Ken’s books.  I also hope to start a quilt after Christmas.  There is a craft/quilting group at this park, so hopefully I can get some much-needed helpful information!

I used to make this recipe when our sons were young and hadn’t thought about it for years.  Recently granddaughters Abby & Grace have helped me make it and we thought we’d share.

Yabba-Dabba-Doo Squares

¼ cup butter or margarine

3 cups miniature marshmallows

3 cups Post Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Pebbles cereal

Melt butter in saucepan, stirring frequently.  Add marshmallows and cereal; stir until marshmallows start to melt and stick to cereal.  Remove from heat.  Press mixture firmly into buttered 8” square pan.  Chill about 1 hour.  Cut into squares.  Store in cool place.  Makes 16 squares.

Optional: Ad 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter when using Cocoa Pebbles cereal.

Note: Recipe may be doubled and pressed into buttered 13” X 9” pan.
