Spring 2010 Adventures:

June 2010—We left Tucson April 12 and spent a few days in Little Rock, Arkansas, where we enjoyed the Clinton Presidential Library, Heifer International and the Old State Capitol.  We arrived in Tennessee April 17 where we enjoyed a wonderful 2 weeks with son Mike and his family.  We enjoyed having lunch at school with each of our grandchildren, making cookies and just hanging out.

We returned to Indiana May 1, where we enjoyed spending time with Eric & Kat and our siblings.  Bob worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the fifth consecutive year and he loved every minute!  We enjoyed the Indy 500 although we would have preferred it finish under green.  We were able to get together with friends and as usual, our time in Indiana flew by!

We are now back in Columbia, TN where we will spend the summer near son Mike and family.  We look forward to exploring TN and spending time with our precious grandchildren.

Tucson:

March 2010—We spent a weekend in Phoenix, where we watched our beloved Indiana Pacers take on the Phoenix Suns.  We enjoyed visiting with several Pacer fans as well as talking with TV announcers Quinn Buckner & Stacy Paetz.  We were also able to get several Pacers Autographs. We spent a day wandering downtown Phoenix, a rainy day at the Penske Racing Museum, lunch at the Fry Bread House owned and operated by the Tohono O’oadham Nation, and a morning at the Arizona State Capitol Museum and Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza which pays tribute to our military in the various wars.

We spent a day at Kitt Peak National Observatory on the Tohono O’odham reservation southwest of Tucson.  At an elevation of 6875 feet, it supports the most diverse collection of astronomical observatories on Earth for nighttime optical and infrared astronomy and daytime study of the Sun.  While there, we toured the 2.1 meter solar telescope and met Claude, an engineering physicist for the National Solar Observatory.  He gave us an individual tour of the solar telescope and how it worked.  It was quite interesting and a beautiful day on the peak.

We attended a Luau at Hope United Methodist Church where we became acquainted with Jane, Sue & Ernie and reminisced about IN as Jane & Sue are native Hoosiers.  We’ve been attending Hope this winter and will miss the fellowship and ministry when we leave.

We enjoyed the Davis-Monthan  Air Show at nearby Davis-Monthan AFB.  The weather and sky were perfect as we enjoyed various air demonstrations including the mighty Thunderbirds.  There were several ground displays where we were able to see various aircraft up close and talk to pilots.

We spent an afternoon at nearby Tucson Electric Park where we watched the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Chicago Cubs at a spring training baseball game.  We spent a lovely day in Tubac where we visited the Tubac Presidio Historic State Park, hiked a portion of the Anza Trail and wandered through the shops in the artist town of Tubac.

We were able to have dinner with Bob’s high school classmate Cheryl and her husband Andy, which was quite enjoyable, as the classmates “caught up” and Cheryl & Andy told us of some other area sights we need to see before we leave Tucson.  It is hard to believe our time here is drawing to a close but we are also anxious to see family and friends.
